Aufgewachsen als Mustersohn, geboren und erzogen im engen Korsett der deutschen Siebziger Jahre. Also: Frei- und Rettungsschwimmer, Abi, Bundeswehr, Studium, Bausparvertrag, Rasenmähen. Ende 1982 per Zufall zu Besuch bei einem befreundeten Werbefotografen im Studio. Danach kein Mustersohn mehr. Sondern Fotograf. 1983 - 1985 grundlegend, umfassend und detailversessen ausgebildet von HJ Hennig. Dann Assistent in Würzburg, Frankfurt, Paris und Heidelberg.
Ab 1988 im ersten eigenen Atelier für Fotografische Gestaltung in Mannheim-Neckarstadt 25 spannende, verrückte, arbeitsintensive, lehrreiche Jahre lang überraschend sesshaft gewesen. 2010 Filmemachen entdeckt. Neue Horizonte erobert. Das perfekte Loft gefunden und dort seit 2021 ganz der Alte: besessen, arbeitswütig, perfektionistisch.
Eine glückliche Nervensäge. Sagen die Freunde. Ein toller Typ. Sagt sein Hund. Filmer. Sagen die Kunden. Komm doch mal aus dem Atelier, sagt die Tochter. Außer Fotografieren und Filmen mag er noch ein paar andere Sachen. Fußball. Zum Beispiel. Bücher. Musik. Erdnussbutter. Die Liste verändert sich. Unaufhörlich kommt Neues dazu. Inhalte, Fähigkeiten - und Ansprüche an sich selbst und seine Arbeit.
Fertig ist man nur einmal. Alles, was vorher kommt, ist Wachstum.
Primarily he was a good son. Born and raised in the rather narrow mindset of the seventies, German style: Swimming certificate, Abitur, military service, university, pension plan, mowing the lawn. Towards the end of 1982 he paid a chance visit to the studio of an advertising photographer whom he befriended. After that, he wasn't a goody-goody with a pension plan anymore. He was a photographer. 1983 - 1985 he had substantial, comprehensive, and detail-oriented training with HJ Hennig. After that, assistant jobs in Würzburg, Frankfurt, Paris, and Heidelberg.
From 1988 to 2013 he spent 25 crazy, work-intensive, enlightening years in a surprisingly settled environment: his first studio for photo design in Mannheim-Neckarstadt. 2010 he discovered film making and conquered new territory. Having found the perfect studio loft in 2021 and having moved all his belongings there, he is now once again who he ever was: a work-obsessed perfectionist.
His friends call him an irritatingly happy pain in the neck. His clients call him when they need something filmed and his daughter calls him instead of a taxi. His dog thinks he's the bee's knees.
Apart from making films and photos, there are other things he likes: football, for example. Books. Music. Peanut butter. The list is forever changing. Expanding. New concepts, skills - and new challenges for him and his work.
It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.
